In know this movie has been out for a while, but with all the big movie releases as of late, I’m just now getting around to Now You See Me. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. This movie kept me guessing right until the end. That hasn’t happened in a long time and I enjoyed it!
Now You See Me is about four unknown street magicians who are brought together by unknown person to produce a magic show. They call themselves the Four Horsemen and are soon skyrocketed to fame and fortune with their own show in Las Vegas. But when they rob a bank as part of their magic act in front of a live audience in Vegas… a bank in France… the FBI and Interpol take notice. Let the games begin. Throughout the entire movie it is hard to tell just who is playing who.
Some of it was predictable and the screenwriters’ need to constantly remind me of certain things made figuring out the reasons why easy, but I still missed the final whodunit twist at the end. The movie entertained and was a nice way to spend a few hours on a hot afternoon. The fact that I had free movie passes didn’t hurt either.
Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman were a delight to watch as always. Not having seen Inglorious Basterds, this is the first picture I’ve seen with Mélanie Laurent, and I enjoyed her performance as well. I even liked Woody Harrelson in this film, not because he’s a bad actor, but because most of the time the characters he plays annoy me. Harrelson is a fine actor, and the fact that his characters affect me so is a testament to his acting abilities.
I’m sure someone will tell me later about a glaring plot hole or something obvious I missed. But I was so caught up in the story, that if there were any of these failures, I just didn’t notice them. This is a movie to add to my ever-growing DVD collection.
